A route for all seasons
Monte Paglietta is the first summit of the ridge separating the Barasson valley from the Menouve one. Its sunny aspect and the absence of steep slopes mean this is a good route choice for any snow and weather condition. The ascent goes along pastures and woods, with the final ridge offering varied terrains, making it gripping and non-repetitive. Once out of the wood, marvellous views onto the Grand Saint Bernard area open up, allowing a glimpse into the countless ski-touring options of this region.
The descent takes place on the same face, freely.
You may also descend via the wood towards the Menouve valley, that usually grants powder galore, considering its aspect.

From the motorway exit Aosta Est, take the tunnel leading to the Grand Saint Bernard valley, then follow it and go beyond the hamlets of Gignod and Etroubles. Shortly before Saint-Oyen, turn right and follow the sign for Prailles. Climb up the municipal road for about 4 km and then reach the small hamlet of Prailles dessous, the trailhead. Leave the car in the small parking space of the hamlet.
Description
From Prailles dessous, take the forestry road that leaves shortly after the last houses and follow it for about 200m before turning left and climbing the snowy meadows until you touch on the hamlet of Prailles dessus. Turn right just beyond them and follow a bridleway that quickly leads to the pastures underneath Tchiou. Climb up the slope freely, leaving the two mountain pastures to the left, reach the wood and a farm track. Keep climbing up the Larchwood and stay to the left of the ridge until you go out of it. After having left the last larches, point to the wide ridge staying to the right and then keep the line of the wide crest to climb up the final stretch of the itinerary. As you gain altitude, splendid views of Mont Vélan and the entire region open up. Once you have reached the Monteret hillock (2.394m), go beyond the final slope that quickly leads to the top of Monte Paglietta (2.476m).
